Baby, There's Snow Outside

Weekend warriors, snow-blind idiots -- call us what you want, Seattlest finally made it up to the hills this weekend and well, there's really no graceful way to say this: we're motherfucking sore today. Thing is, we haven't had much exercise the past couple months and our holiday meals have been more than generous to the curious mass growing under our shirt. Either way, we saw the snow reports for Crystal Mt. and fat belly be damned, we were going snowboarding.

icyhot.jpgWe weren't the only ones. With Crystal boasting over 40 inches of new snow last week and a forecast of new snow all day Sunday, the powder-whores came in droves.

Unfortunately, upon arrival at the ticket booth, we were informed that the high chairs including Ranier Express, High Campbell and Green Valley were closed due to high winds. They discounted our tickets and cattle-prodded us into some of the longest lift lines we've ever seen. Luckily, this didn't last long. After an early lunch, the rest of the mountain opened up and we were able to spread out and stick to higher territory.

The Snow Gods did us well. Aside from the occasional gust of wind sending a freezing blast to the face, the continuous snowfall made for deep, fresh runs all afternoon. We floated along on some of the fluffiest snow this region has seen in years, hardly giving a thought to our turns -- just leaned back and sailed.

NOAA weather forecast shows more snow Tuesday and Wednesday, and a slight chance for more this weekend, so your best bet to hit this powder while it's still fresh is to play hooky the next couple days.
