Meet the Seahawk You'll Be Screaming at on Saturday
At right is Pete Walker Hunter. He grew up in Atlantic City, where his mom's a casino dealer. He starred at Virginia Union University, leading the conference in interceptions, and since graduating with honors in 2002, he's struggled to carve out an NFL career. He's been with the Cowboys, Browns and Jets.
And on Saturday, you'll be screaming at him.
Hawks cornerbacks Kelly Herndon and Jimmy Williams, both backups when the season began, are on injured reserve and out for the season after getting hurt vs. Tampa Bay. Marcus Trufant, "The Inconvient Truf," is hurt too, leaving the Hawks with only four healthy corners, two of whom have never played a down in the silver and blue. Perforce, the team signed Walker Hunter today.
On Saturday he'll join with teammates he's known for three days--Kelly Jennings (rookie), Jordan Babineaux (12 career starts), Rich Gardner (never played a down for Hawks) and Gerard Ross (never played a down for anyone)--to contend with Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn, two of the best receivers in the NFL. Mistakes will be made--assignments missed--strong safeties will cry.
And--though it may not be his fault--Pete Walker Hunter, an individual whose existence you were unaware of until this moment, will be the recipient of a screaming, stomping diatribe. Thought we'd just let you know that now so you can prepare.
UPDATE: Our factcheckers, a.k.a. the reading public, inform me that it's actually Pete HUNTER, not Pete WALKER. All the facts are correct, I just misremembered the name when I typed it in. One thousand apologies. Shame-inducing slapdowns follow in the comments; feel free to add yours.
