Peninsula Candidate Morphed From Tax Cutter To Baby Eater Days Before The Election

There's a rising uproar over a doctored photo of candidate Randy Neatherlin for the 35th Disctrict that went out with a Democratic mailer right before the election. Obviously the Democrats contend that the photograph wasn't intentionally changed to make Randy look like a lecherous drunk, but if you look at the photographs side by side he obviously comes across better in the picture from his site (left). To our untrained eye it does look like his left eyebrow is a little more arched and there's definitely some splochiness around the center of his face. His intricate facial hair looks a little worse in the Democratic copy as well.

Kitsap Sun reporter Steven Gardner posted a YouTube video on his blog that compares the two and this Kitsap Sun article comments on the discrepancy. The Hood Winked blog said:

A Neatherlin supporter sent a complaint to the Public Disclosure Commission, but officials there said there’s no law that would address the problem if there is one. "There’s nothing in the law that says you can’t put in a bad photo of someone," said Lori Anderson, a spokeswoman in the PDC office. ..."

I agree with Jake. If you are going to PhotoShop it, don't be a pussy--where is the anarchy forehead tattoo, the "I Take It Up the Poop Chute" t-shirt, and the pile of half-eaten babies on a plate?

For the record I do think it is photoshopped and I don’t see anything wrong with that. If I did it I would have made it black and white, distorted the perspective and would have given it a pinkish tint to it with the caption. “IM 1 of U? WFT!”. This guy had signs that actually said MIM 1 of U” like he was trying to go after the MySpace/AIM vote.

Now this is how to do a negative ad.

It's a poor reproduction, to be sure, but it looks much more like a blotchy, lower-resolution image turned out through incompetence than chicanery.

Here in Kitsap I have met Neatherlin on the campaign trail and he is a total douche. He ran a completely negative campaign attacking Bill Eickmeyer and rudely made fun of his hearing aide in a debate. Neatherlin had stupid signs and nothing good to run on I am glad that Ike whopped him in the general election.
