"The Mariners trade two of their better young players for an aging Jose Vidro."
-------------------------------------

OK, Snelling was solid, and had some hope in future years if he could avoid injury, but can we please not exaggerate fact and refer to Emiliano Fruto as "one of the better young players"?

He was a mediocre, dime-a-dozen middle reliever, who was no better than Mark Lowe, Sean Green, Jake Woods or any one else the Mariners could pluck from the Tacoma Nick Lacheys.

The focus on the horrendous nature of this trade should really be on how the Mariners acquired a declining player who costs waaaaaay too much now and over the next two years.

We shouldn't care that we trade away good players, if get good ones back. Players like Snelling or Soriano or certainly Fruto ARE expendable, and we should consider trading them when good players are available.

A minor issue, since your overall point (ie, BAD TRADE) is entirely valid, but it needed to be said.

But, yes, bad week in Seattle sports.

"Thursday: The U-Dub volleyball team losses in the NCAA Final Four to Stanford."

Yeah I hate it when my favorite volleyball team "losses" all over the place like that too, friend.
