We have two words for you: Nyandigisi Moikobu. He's a 6-5 swingman for Sealth, and he is our new favorite basketball player. Here's what he did in just one play last night vs. Ingraham.
--Grab a rebound over two players
--Dribble out of traffic
--Dribble the length of the floor
--Fire a no-look crosscourt pass to a teammate for a lay-in.
He can dribble, he's got moves inside, he's got long arms and legs, he can pass, he can really do everything.
Sealth demolished an overmatched but game Ingraham squad (the Rams' Devon Dennis had a hot shooting night, finishing with 19). They are #4 in the state and are going to be tough to top come tournament time, because of a front line of Moikobu, Michael Timmons, and Reggie Rogers (son of former UW All-American DE Reggie Rogers (who also played basketball at UW)). Rogers is a big body but he's a great passer. At guard they've got Melvin Jones, probably the best player on the team, a 6-0 guard who's a great leaper. Point is played by Aubrey Rhodes, a 6-2, 215 guard who's a tough defender.
Sealth pressed Ingraham the whole game--the Rams handled it well, but the Seahawks do a great job of pressing without fouling, keeping the opposition from getting in to their offense.
Sealth pulled away slowly but convincingly, leading 43-31 at half, 65-39 at the end of the 3rd, and 78-44 at the end.
We can't wait--CAN'T WAIT--for Sealth/Beach--the battle of Reggie Rogers (son of a former UW defensive tackle) and Emeka Iweka (a future UW defensive tackle) down low will be fantabulous. There will be two of those--1/12 at Sealth, 2/8 at Beach, and probably again in the Metro Tournament, probably again in the Kingco Tournament, and perhaps in the State Tournament as well. YAY!
