Give Good Gift: Grab Bag

There are those who espouse the theory that "experiences" make better gifts than things (does Deja Vu offer gift certificates?), but we're not above worshiping material goodies ourselves. Either way, Seattlest wants you to give good, yummy, thoughtful things--tangible or experiential--to those you love and so over the next couple of weeks, we'll offer our local picks for things to pick up.

For the meat-and-potatoes family members who all too often don't even bother with the potatoes, get them a year's worth of fresh, organic produce delivered to their door. They can store their preferences online (beets? ew, never please) and order various other sundries like milk, bread and spices should they so choose.

If you have any young kids on your list, we can't recommend this book more enthusiastically. An Elliot Bay Books employee "pick" convinced us to crack open the cover, and we laughed out loud as we read the whole thing in the store. Worth it for the illustrations alone, and adults won't hate reading it (at least not the first ten times).

Our favorite Belltown store Urchin (which recently re-launched its site and finally lets you buy online) sells purses, table linens, and other yummy goodies from San Francisco artist Lotta Jansdotter. We love her calendars as well, which you can find online. Owner Karen Cho has stocked Urchin with unusal, design-savvy items perfect for giving, or hoarding all to yourself.
