I don't understand what the Mariners were thinking on this deal, and I'm a Nationals' fan. Most of us thought that we'd be lucky to find a team to take Vidro for two non-prospects if we covered half his salary.

Perhaps Snelling & Fruto will be solid major leaguers, maybe not. But we got out from under Vidro's salary, and that's all we were hoping for.

Now, don't feel too bad. Vidro can still hit when he's healthy. He's hit .377 the past two Aprils, but wear-and-tear drops his batting average as if there were an anchor attached.

What might Vidro do as your DH? Based on watching him the past two seasons, I'd say you can look forward to something like: .295-15-90 (if he bats third). We don't feel like we lost that offensive production because he's not able to hit like that and play second.

I think he'll make Mariners' fans happy, though I think Bowden would have given him up for a nobody minor leaguer.

Vidro is a DH...

I read an article somewhere today and mr Vidro said that this was an IDEAL situation for him so he could be an every day DH... his knee was too bad to be an everyday player in the field.... so contemplating trading Lopez is a HORIBLE IDEA YOU SHOULD FORGET BEFORE BAVASI PICKS UP ON THE PSYCIC WAVES AND DECIDES THAT IS A GREAT IDEA

so we have FIVE DH's.... Ibanez, Sexson, Broussard, Guillen, and now Vidro... a DF... Willie Bloomquist... W! T! F!

crap...

and trading Soriano for ramirez... damn it...

it all reminds me of Woody's '97 string... where he traded Jose Cruz Jr.... for Timlin... then followed that up by dumping Lowe AND Veritek for heathcliffe slocumb... anybody else just vomit?

get ready... they have to trade Ichiro before his contract is up... cause he dang sure aint gonna re-sign here... if he's staring at a 5 year rebuilding process... (BTW THAT will be the last act of Bavasi... Lincoln will order him to trade Ichiro then once the ink is dry... they'll fire bavasi.... mark my words)

then they'll hire wally walker to find a new GM... havent we been here before?

can we bring back jeff smulyan? please!!!

Heh. I'm happy the M's passed on Vizquel. He has been rock-solid in the Giants infield these last two seasons. His bat ain't great, but he's been healthy, capable, and one of the most exciting and fun players to watch on the team. One of the best signings our team has made.

I knew you M's fans were in trouble when Bavasi was hired. He's running the team into the ground.

However, the REAL problem there isn't Bavasi - it's Howard Lincoln.

Having taken a few minutes to gather myself, stop breathing from my mouth, and wipe the agony away... I still can't believe it.

Possible title for future blog posts on this trade, in the theme of, "Everyone Hates Soriano for Ramirez, etc...":

"Everyone Hates"

This now looks like the worst offseason in the history of the club. It again shows that Bavasi has no idea of how to be a GM.

Even if you wanted to move Soriano, or Snelling, or Fruto, your job is to get value for those players. Bavasi is not getting anything near market value.

He just got fleeced by Jim Bowden for fucks sake. Will, I am to am ill.

I have just woken up and read about this and I think I am going to be sick. I want to throw up now. I am struggling to put two sentences together. I just cannot believe this. This is why people should be fired BEFORE they become desperate on the job.

Fire him? That's too good. We need something much more grisly. And hire Dick Wiliams, damnit. That's what this ballclub needs: Brimstone! Unless he's dead. Then never mind.

There is nothing- absolutely nothing- that can save this trade. Unless Lopez and Sexson can be flipped for Manny Ramirez and Bob Gibson circa 1968 will this be anything but a disaster for this team.

Fire Bavasi. Fire him now.
