The weather outside will be frightful, but the hoops will be f-ing delightful at Bellevue Community College Saturday for the Les Schwab Hoops Challenge.
Sadly, the name is not meant to be taken literally; the players assembled will not be competing against Les Schwab himself, who will turn 90 in February.
Instead, you'll get to see some of the best talent on the West Coast, including Kevin Love, the #1-rated center in the country and a UCLA recruit. He'll lead Lake Oswego, Oregon's #1 team, against USC-signee Venoy Overton and Franklin, Washington's #1 team, in battle of schools from different ends of the racial spectrum (Lake Oswego, located in an affluent suburb of Portland, is known locally as "Lake No-Negro.").
Other top players include Beach's D'Angelo Jones (headed to New Mexico State), O'Dea's Jamelle "Son of Nate" McMillan (Arizona State), Garfield's super soph Aaron Dotson, and Gig Harbor's Clarence Trent, who may be the state's best player.
