"No way"? Care to place odds on that? Currently Vegas has the Mariners as 50-1 to win the AL pennant (the Tigers were 40-1 before last year).

OK, this is all just idiotic. Improve over last year, finishing at .500, I can see that. But contend? With this roster? Hell no. In fact, I'm willing to make a bet, possibly something involving Seattlest vs. Metblogs. Or something. But there's no way this team wins 24 more games than last year, or is contending on the first of September, or whatever you want to define "contending" as.

From Buster Olney's blog on ESPN.com "right now, you'd have to rank Seattle's offseason machinations among the three or four worst in the big leagues, at a time when the Mariners badly need help." This is a bad team with a bad manager, a bad GM (I previously would have considered him not good or bad, this latest deal absolutely pushes it over the edge), a bad President, and a Chairman. While your optimism is certainly refreshing, I don't think anyone would feel it's based on reality.
