Ever see a news story about this kind of thing and think "Holy shit what would it be like to be inside the store when that happens?" Now Seattlest knows someone who can answer that question.
The receptionist at our building sent an email this morning that a co-worker of ours had a flat tire and would be delayed getting into work. About an hour later, we get another email that the same co-worker had been in an accident (she was OK, thankfully) and wasn't going to make it in at all. Initially we thought, so she got a flat tire from the accident, how wierd was it that we heard it backwards?
And then we got this email later, from said co-worker (which we've edited down a bit):
This morning I’m on my way, there was very little traffic and I made it from Tacoma to Downtown Seattle in about 40 minutes. Then I hear this “Whum, whum, whum..” I find a parking lot and discover I have a flat tire. So I call a towing service and they come out and fix my tire. The person who fixed my tire told me to drive down the street to Big O and get a new tire.I get to Big O and they fix the tire. All this time I’m sitting in there tire showroom on the couch watching popcorn pop. This is around 10am and The Price is Right has just started on tv. Bob Barker is showing the first item up for big and I glance over at the TV to see what it is. At that moment, I hear tires squeal and a loud bang, so I look out these big floor to ceiling windows and see a bus. I thought that the bus hit something but the couch I’m sitting on starts to move. Now I’ve sat on couches before and they usually don’t move so I look back and tires and cars are coming through the window at me.
A car hit one of those big Ford trucks, the force was so strong that the driver was thrown from the truck and the truck kept going straight into the store. Of course big trucks usually take everything in it’s path with it. Which had to include the bumper and side of my car. Big O had just finished my tire and parked my car in front of the store.
I didn’t get hurt at all, no scratches, no bumps, none of the tires or metal counters that came across the room hit me. Everything landed around me while I was sitting on that couch.
