Talking 'Bout Jet City
Sometimes we feel that we are taking our home town for granted. We probably focus on the lousy weather, the passive aggressive nature of the people, the ineffective local government, and the selfish NIMBYs who ruin everything.
However, on Sunday as we were driving north on the viaduct we glanced over to see the Olympic Mountains in all of their snow covered glory, and we were reminded that there are few places we would rather live.
Oh Seattle, we're sorry that we get mad at you sometimes. You know we love you most of all.
It is because of this love that we always find it interesting to read what outsiders think of our town. So we were excited to come across this blurb in ESPN.com's Bill Simmon's most recent column following a trip to Seattle:
We decided that Seattle can't be considered an underrated city because everyone always talks about how underrated it is, so now it's properly rated. But can you think of another city other than New York or Los Angeles that had a bigger cultural impact on this country over the past 16 years? Grunge music, Starbucks, microbrews, Microsoft, Amazon.com and even ESPN.com all started there. What other city can come up with six things to compare to those? In contrast we found a FOX Sports blogger who isn't so high on our city. Steve Leonard, on his list of why Seattle Sucks, writes:
Qwest Stadium is a joke its all the way on the other side of the country..and for a good reason, no one likes them...The Fans, Yes they're loud, only when they're winning tho, when there losing its dead silent , maybe they should be the 11 1/2 man, cuz there is no 12th man.?Whoa Steve, that's not how we talk about others in the 206. If we have something nasty to say, we do it anonymously in the comments section of a blog post.

"If we have something nasty to say, we do it anonymously in the comments section of a blog post."
Classic. And generally accurate. Keep up the good work!

What Mr. Leonard should learn about the 2-0-sickness:
