Emtman Enters Hall of Fame Tonight
Back before college football got completely screwed up, the Huskies were a national power. You laugh, but it's true.
They even won a National Championship in 1991, and the greatest player on that team was Steve Emtman. In fact, he was the probably the best player in college football that season. However, since defensive lineman don’t win Heismans, he settled for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award.
Emtman was the overall first pick in the 1992 draft, but never found the same success in the NFL after blowing out both of his knees.
Tonight Emtman will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame along with Bruce Smith, Emmitt Smith, John Madden, and Chubby Checker.
We'll always remember Emtman for the consecutive sacks he made against Michigan early in the 1992 Rose Bowl. Twice he threw off his double team to slam quarterback Elvis Grbac to the ground.
A television camera then picked up the priceless expression of Wolverine Coach Gary Moeller, who had the same look on his face that Jeff Goldblum does in Jurassic Park when he first sees the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
It was the start of a long day for the Michigan offense and the end of a Hall of Fame career for Emtman.
