A Truly Good Use of the Web

kimfamily.jpgThe Kim family from San Francisco are still missing somewhere near the Oregon coast. Their last phone or credit card records are from November 25, near Glendale, OR. As the search continues, Matt Haughey has a brilliant idea: attach cameras to search helicopters or planes, capture the photo/video and post to the web; then ask, well, everyone online to help look for the missing people. Comments on his post further elaborate on how to best adjust the captured images to make such a distributed visual search the most productive.

As an aside, Seattlest had a weird moment of deja-vu when we heard this family went missing near Glendale, but we couldn't pin it on anything. Lo and behold, we recall the story of the "lost" Higginbotham family. They disappeared (albeit later it was discovered intentionally) near Glendale earlier this year in March.
