We get your attempt at what you thought was humor. What cracks me up is your comment on the post.

"Alright, I saw your post about being an old fogey and I thought it was cool and that some people might want to read it. We have our share of fogeys coming through Seattlest and I'm about old enough to qualify myself, so it seemed pertinent. I was a little slap happy anticipating the long weekend when I put the link together, though, and it came out kind of smartassy. I hoped people would read it, think I was an idiot, and click through to read your post. I didn't expect you to get all ruffled about it. This is the internet, grandpa, grow a thicker skin."

Nice.

I'm not asking that you agree that it's the most hilarious thing ever written, but can you guys at least recognize that calling the guy an old fogey because of his musical taste in a link to a post in which he complains about being called an old fogey because of his musical taste is an attempt at humor?

Dan, you're striking out all over on this one:

* Zamboni has been in the lexicon for decades now. You may be one of the few who would consider it obscure -- particularly in a place that has minor-league hockey, a number of skating rinks, figure-skating programs, etc.

* You're baby-boom item is so far off base it's laughable -- as is your misuse of infer in place of imply. But I'm sure you think you're a clever wiseass, which is the whole point, right?

Of course we know what a zamboni is. I myself have personally been to "Teatro Zamboni" three times!

Okay, okay, really I DO know what a zamboni is: I used to read "Peanuts", which frequently mentioned zambonis, presumably because the word "zamboni" was much funnier than most of the other punchlines Schulz came up with back then.

And of course, we DO have the Thunderbirds, so the people who attend WHL games here have actually SEEN a zamboni in action. Either then, or else when the Ice Capades comes to town.

RE "They're only onto old Rod Stewart thanks" Err... you kind of missed the point of the post. The NY Times article linked to was lumping 40 somethings in with an older crowd, and highlighting AARP's assumption that their musical tastes would settle for buying crappy new releases by old artists.
A 45 year old might have an old Rod Stewart album bought in high school, and have no interest in a new release because there was, and is all sorts of better music put out in the last 20 to 30 years.
If you dig a little deeper on the blog you will find that he is a pretty decent reviewer of well, actual new music. These reviews are archived at numberonehitsong.com.
A lot of late 30's and 40 somethings grew up on punk and post punk. We are amused to see it being recycled these days, because well, it doesn't have the same edge.
