Aural Pleasures (11/21 - 11/27)

Not a huge week in music, but hey, it's a holiday. Stay home and eat! Then put your sweatpants on!

Tuesday 21st

>>> +/- at the Croc. Fresh off their glowing review from Pitchfork, Plus/Minus brings their dynamic sensitive indie-pop to town.
*mp3: Steal the Blueprints
9pm; $8.

Wednesday 22nd

>>> Blue Scholars at The Showbox. If you don't know who the Blue Scholars are and why you should see them live, get the hell out of Seattle...or just take our word for it and go to the show.
*mp3: The Ave
8pm. $12 adv/$15 dos. All Ages.

Friday 24th Bluegrass anyone?

>>> Celtic bluegrassers The Paperboys are back in town at the Triple Door. If you couldn't make their October gig at the Tractor Tavern, you can listen to them shred a jig this weekend. That's right: you can shredajig Friday or Saturday night.
*mp3: California
8:00pm; $18 in advance/$20 day of. Side Project opens Friday, The Red Note on Saturday.

>>> Captain Gravel at Conor Byrne. Captain Gravel is easily one of the most dynamic bluegrass groups in Seattle, and everyone in the band is incredible on their instrument.
*mp3: Beg Steal or Borrow
9pm. There's a cover charge, but neither Captain Gravel nor the Conor Byrne website says what it is. We're guessing $5.

>>> Alice in Chains at the Paramount. Layne Staley may still be dead, but grunge is back, baby, and now it's sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink and VH1 Classic.
8pm; sold out, but look on Craigslist.

>>> Shim at the Sunset. These local badasses serve up arena rock in tiny venues---just what you need the day after Thanksgiving. Playing with Post Stardom Depression and the Lonely H.
*mp3: Satisfied
10pm; $6.

Saturday 25th

>>> The Coup at Neumo's. Combining a superb flow and a deep understanding of "the funk," The Coup absolutely killed it last time they were in town. Like a hiphop Le Tigre, The Coup remind us that 1) the personal is political and 2) that those politics don't have to get in the way of a good time. With Mr. Lif.
*mp3s: We Are The Ones, My Favorite Mutiny
8pm doors; $15 adv. All ages

>>> Ozomatli at The Showbox. Decisions, decisions. The political, funky/hip-hop/ sounds of The Coup (see above), or the political, salsa/cumbia/funk/hip-hop sounds of Ozomatli? Seattlest is all torn up about this because we also really want to see The Coup. Yes, we've seen Ozo every time they come to town, but we're weak and we can't help it. It will probably be one of the best live shows you see in Seattle. Rock, Paper, Scissors...Ozomatli it is. !Ya se fue!
*YouTube video: Cut Chemist Suite
7pm doors; $18 adv. All ages
