As has been pointed out in the local media, in the same old boring and un-imaginative way (Ugh, we don't even know what this guy was trying to say), Saturday is the annual cross state match-up between Washington and Washington State.
This is the week when graduates of U-Dub and Wazzu annoy their co-workers with jokes, bets, and occasional violence.
Although we didn't graduate from either university, we still love Husky football more than most things in life, and even we can't get that excited for this year's Apple Cup. Sure we are going to watch it, but there are two other games tomorrow afternoon that we looking forward to much more.
The team just hasn't been that fun to watch since Isaiah Stanback's foot exploded during the Oregon State loss. Our dreams of a bowl quickly evaporated after a near miracle in Berkeley, and an overtime loss versus Arizona State. The season was finally put out of its misery last week against Stanford, in what may have been the worst game ever.
We honestly don't know that much about the Cougars this year, except that they got crunched in Auburn, rebounded to make the top 25, and then lost to Arizona. Oh and one of their red-shirt freshman is the son of one of our co-workers.
Bob Condotta is going with Cougars because, well, they have a half decent defense, and the Huskies offense is pretty bad. We feel the same way. Stanback was the team's offense; he was the team's best runner, best passer, and just the best everything. Without him, the offense sputters along hoping to luck into a big play.
Stanback's replacement, Carl Bonnell, has started six career games, and finished only two.
Because of our bias earlier in the year we felt that there was no way the Cougs could win, now we've seen the team play and understand the truth.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
