Aural Pleasures (11/7 - 11/13)

Tuesday 7th

>>> Foreigner at The Paramount. Be warned: whether you're cold as ice or hot-blooded, this is the kind of rock that leads to double-vision.
*video: Urgent
8:00pm; $40-$150. The $150 includes a pre-show wine tasting and meet & greet.

>>> Bonnie Prince Billy at The Tractor. Will Oldham has been keeping us at arm's length with the "Bonnie Prince Billy" moniker for years. We can pretend it isn't true, but it is. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
9:30pm; $15. Sold out.

Wednesday 8th

>>> Del The Funky Homosapien at The Showbox. This master MC has been wowing us with his phenomenal rhymes since the early 90's.
*mp3: Mr. Dobalina
8pm; $20adv/$25dos.

>>> 120 Days at Chop Suey. Because everybody loves fuzzed-out electro Norwegian drone-rock.
*mp3: Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone)
9pm doors; $8. 21+.

>>> Kristoffer Ragnstam at the Triple Door Musicquarium. See this poppily diverse Swede now, before his debut EP and full-length come out in America, and he goes big-time.
*mp3: Breakfast By the Mattress
8pm; free (?). 21+.

>>> Sandi Thom at Crocodile Cafe. Sandi Thom got so tired of touring around as a broke singer/songwriter that she decided to hold virtual concerts from her basement, via webcam. By the middle of the second week of her virtual "tour," she had 70,000 people watching and all the major labels vying for a piece. She signed with Columbia (and broadcast the signing live on her website). We think that's the best story ever, and now she's coming to Seattle to folk-rock us.
*mp3: I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker
9:30pm; $10.

>>> Gwar at The Fenix. Truly one of the stupidest acts of all time, but it's always looked like a blast.
*video: Kurt Loder on Gwar from back in the day.
7pm; $20. All-ages.

Thursday 9th

>>> Dr. Octagon aka Kool Keith at Chop Suey. Kool Keith has changed his name more times than we've changed our underwear (seriously, check it out), but he's also been exploring the finer points of batfuck-crazy lyrics for over a decade.
8pm; $12. All Ages - Bar w/ ID.

>>> Average White Band at Jazz Alley. Listen to that funky Scottish 70s music, Seattle.
*video: Pick up the Pieces
7:30pm/9:30pm; $24.50 and you can make a reservation.

>>> Viva Voce instore at Easy Street Queen Anne. If you missed their boy-girl moody rock two weeks ago when they played a sold-out gig with Silversun Pickups, here's your second chance.
*mp3: So Many Miles
6pm; free.

Friday 10th

>>> Built to Spill at the Pyramid Snow Cap Ale "Get Snowed In" Party in the Snow Cap Ale Tent (across from Safeco Field). Decent food, strong Winter Brews and great music. Seattlest Jack will be there celebrating his birthday. Buy him a beer! Give him a kiss! Buy him a beer!
7pm doors and beer, 9pm show; $18. 21+; will sell out quick!

>>> Bloodhag at The Funhouse. It's not science fiction rock like Yes or something - It's rock about science fiction.
*Video Bloodhag.
9:30pm; $6.

Saturday 11th

>>> Murder By Death at Chop Suey. They may take their name from a Neil Simon comedomystery, but the music is all drama.
*mp3: Brother
5pm doors; $12. All ages.

>>> UW School of Music presents trombonist Philip Brown in a recital titled "Tribute to Ray Premru" at Brechemin Auditorium.
7:30pm; $10.

>>> Favourite Sons/The Drones at the Crocodile. Dirty guitars!
*mp3s: Hang On Girl, The Miller's Daughter
9pm doors; $8adv/$10dos.

Sunday 12th

>>> Pallaton CD release at the Rendezvous with The Solvents. Pallaton is an experimental solo acoustic/electric act from long-time Seattle artist Carlos Rodela. Mixing folk, trance and world-music, Pallaton's first disc, A Stick Can Be A Spaceship is coming out alongside Portland-based singer-songwriter emBROWNLOWe's, Figures Missing Wings
10pm. Free.

Monday 13th

>>> Chic Street Man at Intiman Theatre. The composer of the score of Intiman's production of Native Son, Chic's doing a one-night-only concert during the show's run. Funky bluesy ballads are on the bill.

>>> UW School of Music presents its 16th Annual Concerto Competition at Meany Theater.
7pm; $10.

>>> Frank Black at the Showbox. Yup, he's still around.
*video: Los Angeles
8pm doors; $20adv/$23dos. 21+.

>>> The Presets/The Rapture at El Corazon. It's an electro-rock doubleheader, so wear your dancing shoes and be prepared for some considerable cowbell.
*mp3s: Are You the One?, Get Myself Into It
7pm doors; $18adv/$20dos. All ages.
