Watching
The Grand Illusion is screening a film on Japanese architecture tonight called Kochuu. "Kochuu, which translates as “in the jar,” refers to the Japanese tradition of constructing small, enclosed physical spaces, which create the impression of a separate universe." Plays at 7:30 and 9pm.
Broadway Performance Hall has some showings of Crispin Glover's "What Is It" this weekend. What is "What Is It?" Hard to say, really. IMDb says, "Being the adventures of a young man whose principle interests are snails, salt, a pipe, and how to get home. As tormented by an hubristic, racist inner psyche." One showing tonight at 8pm.
Pacific Northwest Ballet at McCaw Hall. An evening of mixed reperatory pieces, including "World Premiere" by Victor Quijada and three PNB premieres—Ullyses Dove’s "Dancing on the Front Porch of Heaven," Peter Martin's "Valse Triste," and Twyla Tharp’s "Waterbaby Bagatelles."
These are only in case every single showing of Borat in the city is sold out, which, despite the number of screens it's on, is a possibility.
Listening
Xiu Xiu at The Paradox. As difficult to describe as it is to pronounce ("shoo shoo"), this band is folk, noise rock, classical; with a lot of weird drum stuff going on and they're in Seattle so often we're starting to get pissed off at the "California band" rep they've got. Listen to "Clowne Towne", "I Broke Up".
Sporting
There's a state high school football tournament game near you this weekend.
