Dissecting Grey's Anatomy: Choice Cuts

318002.jpgEpisode Five finds Meredith expounding on commitment. Gonna cut someone up? Hell yeah, you gotta be committed to it.

For starters, Cristina is at the white board, managing Burke's operations. You could call them covert operations, as Yang is stealthily making sure she's by her man's side in the OR.

Her position gives her power, and a free Seattle's Best latte from someone who wants to scrub in. (Thankfully, they did not reference the dubious "mochalatte" from season one.)

"Maybe I should sleep with Burke," snarks Karev. Then he'd get free espresso AND choice cuts on the operating table.

Meanwhile, Meredith is moping that she told McDreamy that she broke up with Finn a week ago, and McDreamy STILL hasn't called. Are we back to that, Mere? Even surgeons got to wait by the phone? But George is peeved, too, 'cause Callie's giving him the cold shoulder.

To put an end to her waiting game, Meredith busts into McDreamy's trailer, only to find him fresh out of the shower and a mystery lady reclining on the bed. Ouch! That hurt!

Back at SGH, a sulky Meredith meets a jilted Georgie in the elevator.
"Ok," George tells her. "I'll be Cristina for you if you'll be Izzy for me." Ew.
Bu don'tcha know, it works, as each impersonates the other's confidantes. Hey, faking the other's best friend- that's what second-best friends are for, right?

The experience is a revelation for Meredith. "We've become the people the people we want to be with want to avoid." Whoa. What are you, like, French?

George only recently got his mojo back. But for Meredith, fresh from the peak of an Isoceles love triangle, it's a new low. No more dating, they vow, in one of SGH's longest elevator interludes. Thank sweet Jesus you can stall that thing, right?

In the OR, Team Burke/Yang take on the Humpty Dumpty surgery, in which they take apart a man's heart, scrape out the tumor, and put him back together again. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't do it, but this is Dr. Preston Burke and SGH's most ambitious intern. You know this Humpty won't get dumped.

Meredith is thrilled to learn that McMystery woman is Derek's sister. OH, the old sister routine. No for reals, Nancypants, as McSteamy calls her, is just checking up on her bro. And his ex. And the man with whom his ex cheated. Looks like Nancypants has had some of that too, she reveals over lunch with her brother.
Is there a doctor in the house-- or a sister-- who hasn't done Dr. Sloan?

Izzy hasn't done him, because after all, on her first day back and on probation, she's not doing much of anything. Meredith is assigned to make sure she's seen and not heard, but Izzy's intuition can't be tamped down. When a law student with a burned hand acts wierd, Izzy figures out that she burned her hand on purpose to avoid taking the bar. She's not a surgeon, she's Nancy Drew! No, wait, ti's a whole new spin-off series, psychic surgeon,in which izzy just has visions of what ails people, without ever running diagnostic tests!

The former Mrs. McDreamy could use a little intuition herself. Treating a woman with two uteruses, both ovens stuffed with buns due at different times, Addison unintentionally reveals that there are TWO count 'em, fathers for theabies. Uh-oh!

At the surgery, Karev shows he may be more "babycatcher" than plastic surgeon when he tells George to calm the babes using sports play-by-play. It's so in utero, dude.

Cut to Cristina, whose her hardcore studying has paid off in the OR, but is Bailey on to her?

In her report card to the chief, Izzy gets props from Meredith for her intution with the law student, and Meredith tells Cristina that she's pulled her head out of her self-absorbed ass, and is there for her. This may be a time to emphasize that Meredith has NO IDEA that her so-called BFF is covering for, and co-ooperating (get it?) with her man. Maybe Mere has realized that to have a friend you've got to be one. Commitment. Like a surgeon's scalpel, it cuts both ways, yo.

This show has lost me! This season feels nothing like the previous seasons. The writing is lame. The acting is horrible and the actors obviously hate each other. Damn! Why? Tell me why? It used to be so good!
