Football Hall of Fame Shits on Our Childhood

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released a list of 111 preliminary contenders for election in 2006, and they left off newly-eligible Cortez Kennedy.

That's Cortez Kennedy who went to 8 Pro Bowls, was on the NFL's All-Decade team of the 90's, and won the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year award in 1992.

That's Cortez Kennedy who we idolized and who was basically the only good player the Seahawks had in the 90s. And YES, we're including Dan McGwire.

Mike Sando of Seahawks Insider ain't havin' it. He describes the devastation that Tez wrought in that season, looking at one game against the Raiders.

The Raiders' first drive ended with Kennedy matched one-on-one against Wisniewski. Kennedy swiftly brought down the fullback for a 3-yard loss. I had to rewind the play a few times to see if Wisniewski ever touched him. If he did, Kennedy didn't seem to notice.

On another early possession, Kennedy pile-drived Raiders quarterback Todd Marinovich -- remember him? -- almost before Wisniewski could get out of his stance. Trainers carried Marinovich off the field.

Jay Schroeder replaced him. The Raiders adjusted by double-teaming Kennedy with Wisniewski and Don Mosebar. Wisniewsi went to eight Pro Bowls in 12 seasons, including seven in a row. Mosebar was a three-time Pro Bowl center. The two of them could usually handle Kennedy together, but Schroeder went down hard the first time Mosebar found himself manned up.

Replays showed Kennedy getting off the ball so quickly that Mosebar barely grazed him with one hand.

Maybe you can debate whether Kennedy is a Hall of Famer (not with us, though, because we'd punch you in the neck) but not on a list of 111 preliminary contenders? And you include Ricky Watters???

Hall of Fame, if you were our girlfriend, we'd totally be super passive-aggressive about this, and probably not call you for a couple of days, and then when you called us, be like "oh, we guess you found time to call us but not to include Cortez Kennedy on your list of preliminary nominees for the Hall of Fame! Why can't you be more supportive of what's important to us?," and then hang up.
