Let the Door Hit You on the Way Out

walker.jpgBefore you move it's a good idea to throw out the crap you don't need any more. And our Oklahoma City-bound basketball franchise is doing just that, firing longtime Sonics executive Wally Walker.

Walker, whose incompetence as an executive was exceeded only by the incompetence of his hires, was the team's CEO and a partial owner under the Howard Schultz administration.

What's worse, a thank you party that Walker's throwing this weekend--originally intended as thank you to Sonics employees--will now also serve as his own going away party. Awkwaaaaaaaard.

Fans and columnists agree that Walker sucked. He turned a perennial contender into an occasional one, fought with the franchise's greatest player, and failed miserably in lobbying the state and city for a new arena. Howard Schultz will live with the decision to cause the Sonics' move, but Walker deserves most of the blame.

So while the National Brandon Association starts play next week, with the Sonics taking on the home town Blazers, Walker will be waking up at noon, hanging out in his local Tully's and erasing voice mails that begin, "Hey asshole…"
