Aural Pleasures (10/25 - 10/30)

Wednesday 25th
>>> Cut Chemist and Lyrics Born at Neumo's. If Cut Chemist's contributions to Ozomatli are a highlight of your personal musical history, Seattlest will buy you a drink. We're just praying that Lyrics Born actually has some new material this time around, sheesh.
8pm; $18 adv/$20 door. Pigeon John opens and it's all ages, shorties.
>>> Ziggy Marley at The Showbox. Bob's best-looking son does reggae just like daddy.
8pm; $30 adv/$32 dos. All ages.
>>> Forward, Russia! at The Crocodile. Yet another post-punk band from Britain. Yeah yeah, but these guys are, like, real literate and shit. Opening act Scanners had to cancel due to visa issues, but Siberian will still be there.
9pm doors; $10 adv/$12 dos.
>>> Now It's Overhead at Chop Suey. Dreamy and atmospheric with layers of vocals and multi-instrumental flourishes, care of the good people at Saddle Creek.
8pm doors; $8. All ages.
Thursday 26th
>>> She Wants Revenge at The Showbox. Ha! Just kidding. They suck! Suck! Suck! Suck! Seriously, we can't believe this glittery turd is sold out. We thought Seattle had some taste.
8pm; SOLD OUT -- bummer.
>>> Regina Spektor at The Moore. She's Russian and quirky and plays the piano. We're completely smitten.
8pm; $17 plus fees. Free in-store at the Queen Anne Easy Street at 6pm.
>>> Be Your Own Pet at El Corazon. They're just kids, and their songs are poppy as fuck. Expect a high-energy show. Opening bands Tall Firs and Awesome Color are also signed to Ecstatic Peace, so it's sure to be a label lovefest. mp3 here.
7:30pm; $10. All ages.
Friday 27th
>>> Silversun Pickups at The Crocodile. Honestly, the Pickups are really sonically interesting and might be best experienced through headphones. We'll be there to find out for sure. mp3 here.
9pm; $12.
>>> Mavis Staples Duo at Meany Hall. The legendary R&B singer pays tribute to THE gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson.
8pm; $12-28.
Saturday 28th
>>> Degenerate Art Ensemble at Town Hall. It's actually disingenuous to label this as a DAE show, but we had to get your attention and we didn't figure "Stuart Dempster's Birthday Party!" would do it, as unfair as that is. The Degenerate Art Ensemble is scheduled to play, as is Trimpin, as is "Awesome," as are a bunch of other awesome people. DAE mp3, Trimpin mp3.
2pm; $12.
>>> Dawn Clement Trio at Tula's. This Seattle pianist is one of the best we've seen anywhere, and she's got a Norah Jones-y voice as well. Jazz critic Alexander Stern calls her "the next big thing in jazz." Catch her while she's still at small clubs like this one. Dreamer.mp3, 2-Day.mp3
8:30pm; $12. Call 206-443-4221 for reservations.
>>> Damien Jurado at The Paradox. We're sure the local singer-songwriter extraordinaire will be playing from his new album And Now That I'm In Your Shadow - check out "What Were the Chances."
7:30pm; $10 adv/$12 dos. All ages.
Sunday 29th
>>> Chris Smither at The Tractor. One of the best folk-blues guys around.
8pm; $18 adv/$20 dos.
>>> Make Believe at The Comet. Tim Kinsella's latest group is less emo and more noiserock. Playing with Ecstatic Sunshine, whose own avant sound should compliment them nicely. mp3 here.
9pm; $5.
Monday 30th
>>> Heartless Bastards at The Tractor. Seriously, with a name like that, how can you go wrong?
9pm; $10
>>> Amy Sedaris at Neumo's followed by Love Is All. Or Funny Hot Chick followed by Kick-Ass Swedish Rock!
6pm; SOLD OUT! (Looks like their might be some tickets on Craig's List)
