Josh Brown totally saved our Sunday by drilling, and we mean drilling, a 54 yard field goal with time expiring.
The kick gave the Hawks a 30-28 victory over division rival St. Louis, and put them back in first place at 4-1.
A loss would have meant second place behind the suddenly hot Rams, back to back losses, and complete panic time on the KJR phone lines.
It also would have been more devastating because the Hawks, who were down 21-7 at the half, seemed to have the game all wrapped up following a Lofa Tatupu interception with three minutes left. A Maurice Morris fumble on the Rams' five, and a 67 yard Bulger-to-Holt TD pass later, and it was guh time.
However, despite Coach Holmgren's best efforts the team drove down the field to set up Brown's 49 yard attempt. (FLAG). Hold on (Illegal-formation on the offense, five yards). Sorry, 54 yard attempt.
PHEW.
Steve Hutchinson returns on Sunday.

Friendly Folk-Pop for the Kids: Hey Marseilles at Vera This Saturday

I was happy to see Brown redeem himself for that tragic "Double-Doink" 34-footer. I blame it on the rookie holder: "Laces out! LACES OUT!!!"
