All-everything Husky recruit Spencer Hawes is having arthroscopic surgery tomorrow. Something's floating around in his knee. From the UW press release:
The 7-foot center is projected to be sidelined for two to four weeks, but a true timeline for his return won't be available until the day after the surgery at the earliest."This is obviously a setback for Spencer and our program," said [coach Lorenzo] Romar. "But, we are very optimistic based on what we have been told that he shouldn't be out for very long. It also helps that he was already in great condition."
Crap. So begins what will likely be a career-long battle between the talented center and his joints. We are afraid.
In lighter news, Bob Condotta of the Times found some minor inaccuracies in the USA Today's College Basketball preview magazine.
Here's verbatim how the magazine concluded its preview of UW: "After losing G Nate Washington before last season and then Brandon Roy after 2005-06, the Cougars are in a rebuilding phase.''Yes, USA Today called maybe the most memorable player in UW history "Nate Washington'' and then referred to the Huskies as the Cougars.
You can see the Cats Dawgs (sans Hawes) on Friday night at a sort of Midnight Madness-thing, after the UW women's volleyball game.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
