Our Great Third Base Coach Means We Stink

Haley3rd-m.jpg As this third straight dreadful Mariners' season drags to a close, we were struck by something on USS Mariner. Their feeling is that Carlos Garcia has been doing a very good job as the team's third base coach.

We found this quite amusing because we have always said that if a team is playing really well then the fans turn on the third base out of a lack of anything else to complain about.

Fans love to bitch and moan, and when things are going well, you gotta dig deep.

In 2001 when the Mariners won 400 games and everything was clicking, we would routinely hear about how many runs Dave Myers was costing the team. In the early nineties when the Red Sox made it to the playoffs every year, ESPN's Bill Simmons and his fellow Sox fans would constantly gripe about their guy Dale Sveum.

Luckily Mariners fans don't have to look that far to find crap on the field. However, USS Mariner pointing out how well our third base coach is doing, well, it's another reminder that the fan base won't be spending money on ugly t-shirts anytime soon
