Meanwhile, in Non-Homophobic Reggae News

Another month, another free Scion-sponsored documentary at the Harvard Exit. This time around (tomorrow night), it's Favela Rising.
Favela Rising documents a man and a cultural movement, a city divided, and a Brazilian ghetto (or favela) united. Haunted by the murders of his family and friends, Anderson Sa leaves his drug-dealing days behind him, and instead chooses to lead a social revolution in Rio de Janeiro's most dangerous slum. Through his unique Afro Reggae music---influenced by hip hop, the rhythms of the street, and Afro-Brazilian dance---he rallies his community to resist violent oppression in the favela, enforced by teenage drug armies and sustained by a corrupt police force. Chronicling the rise to greatness of the Afro Reggae movement, the film shows how the music and culture of Brazil's underclass inspires the people and becomes a catalyst for genuine, grassroots social change.
Doors and drinks at 8pm, movie at 9pm, director Q&A immediately thereafter. RSVP here.
