Sorry You Lost Your Job, But I've Got An Election To Lose!

mcgavick.jpgSafeco announced today it's laying off or "reassigning" 240 employees.

The company needs to cut costs, it says, which apparently wasn't an issue when it gave Mike McGavick $28 million for leaving his job (scroll down on that) so he could run for US Senate.

McGavick made a fantastic showing in Tuesday's primary, eliminating such Republican party heavyweights as Brad Klippert, B. Barry Massoudi, and William Allen Chovil. He's only got one more candidate to beat!

But unlike McGavick's primary opponents, Maria Cantwell can count on votes from people outside her immediate family. In fact, recent polls show her with more than 50% support already. No matter how many exclamation points you put after your name, that ain't good.

Fired Safeco employees, look at the silver lining--now you'll have time to volunteer for your old boss's campaign! Boy, does he need you.

  • "How do these places stay in business?"

    Two words.. Corporate Wellfare

I really have to love the way corporations these days decide to cut costs.

"We're short X million. X million divided by $Y thousand annual salaries equals Z hundred jobs. OK, go cut Z hundred jobs. Wherever, whoever, we don't care."

How do these places stay in business?

  • Well, at least now we know how he's going to *ahem!* "pay" for his next cycle of TV ads.

And I can't WAIT to see how Safeco spins the inevitable premium increases that will "just happen to" go into effect this November...
