We'll Take Lucky, But We'll Also Watch Good

emtman.jpgWe're going to have to disagree with this assertion by the good folks at subscription site Dawgman.com. They're talking about the PAT block that helped UW beat Fresno State on Saturday.

That is what winning teams do – they make their own luck. No matter how many big returns or screw ups that happened prior to that, they make a big play when they had to and it turned out to be the difference.

No, winning teams don't "make their own luck," they beat the living crap out of everyone.

If you want to see a winning team, check out Fox Sports Northwest on Thursday nights in October. They'll be showing five games from the 1991 Huskies' national championship season, including drubbings of Arizona State, Oregon and Stanford, the 14-3 win at USC, and the only game that year that went down to the final snap, a 24-17 victory at Cal.

Good teams--winning teams--dominate the opposition. The 1991 Huskies didn't need a blocked PAT to beat unranked non-conference foes at home. Hell, they beat top-ten Nebraska on the road by 15 points.

Luck is just that--luck. But we'll take it! Go Dawgs! (And don't expect to see us out the next few Thursday nights)

Reading the coverage of the game the blocked extra point wasn't luck (or at least not all luck). Husky coaches changed their kick block team after reviewing the tapes of Fresno State because they thought Fresno State was weak up the middle and added the player that blocked the kick to the team. After getting close earlier in the game they continued with the new scheme and it paid off. That's not luck, that's good coaching.
