Ask Seattlest: Where to Go for Karaoke?

karaoke.jpgA reader asks:

I gots a question for you, Mr. Seattlest. People at work are looking for a good Karaoke venue. You heard tell of any? Friends from work want to do it Weds. night. Looking for more "hip" than unhip; more top 40/seventies/big band than modern country, etc. Everyone knows there are lots in the Int'l District, but we're not looking for a William Hung outing, to laugh at furriners. We want to have fun our own selves.

Sunset Bowl has karaoke, but it's bad---C&W regulars who take it too seriously, who all know each other, etc. Drunk biker chicks singing "stand by your man."

Any thoughts appreciated.

We've never done karaoke -- we're painfully aware of our own lack of talent, and not all that inclined to get drunk enough to forget it. But we put the call out to Seattlest HQ, where a crack squad of fun-finders came up with several suggestions:

Kim: "the rickshaw in BFE greenwood is the best. i think it's like 105th or something." [We know where the Rickshaw is, but what's BFE greenwood?]

Audrey: "I love karaoke! My favorite spot is the Twilight Exit. Hipsteraoke at its finest."

Dan: 'Isn't the Comet supposed to have decent karaoke? Also the twilight exit?"

Donte: "bush gardens
rickshaw
i think twilight exit has it on certain nights to
doesn't vito's have it too? r place?

i don't do karaoke, so these are from a friend that does."

Have we overlooked a particularly thrilling karaoke oasis? Especially one that hosts it on Wednesday night? Let us know in the comments.

The best wednesday night venue for karaoke is Goldie's on Airport Way. It's out, not near anything else, so it keeps the causal 'in/out for one song' people away, but it's rarely too crowded (unlike the Twilight Exit). Best of all, they have a great happy hour after 11pm while karaoke is going on.

Definitely the comet on a wednesday night.

BFE is 'bum-fuck Egypt', as in, 'really far away.'
