With the Seahawk football beginning on Sunday, there is simply not a better time to look at the upcoming season than right now, sorry nnnnnnnnnnow.
Following last season's exploits, we are extremely optimistic about this year. The navy blue, other kind of lighter blue, and green return a very strong team in a very bad division.
Yet, we are finding it hard to get over the departure of Steve Hutchinson. We have nightmares of Hasselbeck repeatedly getting thrown into the ground, and Alexander’s running lanes shrinking dramatically.
It’s time like these we try and remember that with the addition of Julian Peterson, the linebacking corps is now one of the best in football. Then we remind ourselves that since 2000 the losing team in the Super Bowl has not made the playoffs. What is wrong with us?
Negative Nelly inner voices aside, we feel very confident that the Hawks will make it back to the playoffs.
However, we understand that people know very little in early September (hence those hilarious 'Get Your Story Straight' commercials the NFL Network runs at the end of every season), and so predictions of any kind are just poorly educated guesses that can change with the snap of a knee.
Having said that we are going to rip off Deadspin and provide a list of pre-season prediction for the Hawks. Since we're lifting their idea, they go first.
Deadspin— Division Champion.
Bill Simmons (ESPN)— 7-9, second place in the NFC West. No playoffs.
Sports Illustrated— Division Champion. Lose to New York in Divisional Round
Steve Kelly (Seattle Times)— Division Champion
Jose Miguel Romero (The Times)— Division Champion
Danny O’Neil (The Times)— Division Champion. Lose to Indianapolis in the Super Bowl.
Dave Grosby (KJR)— Win the Super Bowl
Bruce King (former KOMO sportscaster)— Win the AFC West. Lose to the Houston Oilers in the Divisional Round.
(Note to the PI, we know what we wrote about predictions being a load of malarkey. But come on, they are fun. Next time have your writers actually make some).

Around The -Ists This Week

Who says this team needs Hutch? He'll be much worse without Jones than the Seahawks will be without Hutch.
Quote from the PI.
"As great a player as Hutch is ... I would not be surprised if I run for more yards over the left side and Chop ends up going to the Pro Bowl." -- Shaun Alexander
Most of these predictions are from local guys - so uttlerly useless.
Or at the least uninteresting.
Better yet - more predictions from national media guys.
Houston Oilers? Is Bruce King getting (more) senile or was he misquoted?
Ron: What makes you think the national media guys know any more than the local guys? In fact, the local newspaper people are very knowledgeable.
