"I Already Graduated" Is No Excuse

BelltownSchool1876.jpgAlice Cooper was right about one thing: school was out for summer. But his corollary argument was faulty: school need not be out forever.

Seattle is chock full of ways for you to go back to school this fall -- without committing yourself to earning some kind of degree or piling up decades worth of student loans. If there's something you want to do, there's probably someone in Seattle who'll feed you for a lifetime.

Aspire to foodiehood and learn culinary techniques. Classes start Sept. 7.

Further fancy up your footwork with balboa, the Lindy hop, salsa, advanced tango, swing, or West Coast swing. Classes start the week of Sept. 10.

Learn to draw, sculpt, or paint. Classes start next week.

Learn letterpress, typography, advertising, graphics or web software, and more at the School of Visual Concepts. Classes start the week of Sept. 25.

Sail. NOW! Starts Sept. 30. While you're at it, learn to build a boat, or at least part of one.

October:
Add rope play to your sex life. Oct. 1

Learn Arabic. Or Latin. Or Korean. Or become multi-multilingual with 11 other languages. Classes start Oct. 2

Bring a woman to orgasm. Apparently some people need lessons. If you're one of them, we encourage you to enroll. Oct. 8

Already think you're a foodie? Bump yourself up to food snob with the culinary masters series. Starts Oct. 11

Learn to read Proust, Shakespeare, Latin American poets, or the most famous Homer pre-Simpsons. Learn to write just about anything, including stories of obsession, radio pieces, picture books, travel memoirs, and of course poetry. The world can't get enough poetry. It's all in one annoying-to-link-to PDF. Classes start in October.

Whenever:

Punk rock yoga. 'Nuff said.

Become Seattle's answer to Ken Burns . . . or Ed Wood.

Classical English riding lessons.

Private lessons in rapping, singing, guitar, and/or drums from Sid Law. (206) 714-2368

Get your meager nest egg together and buy a house. Or learn how to buy for the first time. (Only real estate requires that people learn how to pay for things...)

Learn to fly.
