Decisions, decisions. This member of Seattlest will have a good friend in town for the duration of Bumbershoot weekend, so most of our scheduling will depend on him. Good thing our friends tend to have taste. Present company excluded.
On Saturday, we want to check out new Sarathan psych-rockers The Purrs, but we'll also catch Jamie Lidell. We have seen him once before, but our friend has not and we think Jamie's retro-futuristic electro-soul must be experienced. We will probably see The Thermals, because we love them and their third full-length has been well-received---and in spite of how terrible the sound is in Exhibition Hall. Maybe Of Montreal, and then either Lady Sovereign or Badly Drawn Boy (or both). We're avoiding the screamo on the Mainstage entirely.
Sunday we'll get there early and perhaps catch a bit of Mon Frere's new wave before the New Pornographers, and then stick around at the Mainstage for Spoon. Yeah, we've seen 'em both a bunch, but they're always solid and dependable live. Then we'll hit the Sky Church for a little of local rockers New Fangs before we give Jeremy Enigk one more chance. Take a break with some comedy (Best Week Ever Live), then back outside for the soft Swedish folk of José González. We will not miss Kanye.
For Monday, we think Paul F. Tompkins is funny, so we wanna see his smart suit schtick. We need to see one of the roundtable discussions on Trapped in the Closet as well. The evening brings the lounge cool of Nouvelle Vague and then Canadian chanteuse Feist. We like Metric alright, but Tribe headlining at the Mainstage will probably win out.
