So, there's that big, crowded festival-thingy going on this weekend and we could recommend a bunch of stuff to hit there, but ah, we're far too lazy to do that. Here's the schedule - make yourself happy. No one's looking.
Tuesday 29th
>>> The Maldives at The Tractor. Ease into the week with some slow-ass folk tonight.
9pm; $6.
Wednesday 30th
>>> Pretty Girls Make Graves, Sunday Night Blackout, Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death and The Trucks at Neumo's. With three openers it looks to be a long night, but Pretty Girls aim to please. Added bonus: The Trucks have lyrics like "I wear my panties a few days too long - ewww."
Doors at 10pm; $12 advance; all ages, bar with ID
>>> Llama, The Fallouts, The Rheas at The Crocodile. Here's a little capsule preview of The Rheas' performance that you did not read in the August issue of Spin, not to imply that you read Spin, but if you do, and you read the August issue, you would not have read this in said issue of the aforementioned magazine: "The Rheas: Traditional, summery power chord pop/rock with nice harmonies and a cute drummer. Imagine a more up-tempo, better-looking Teenage Fanclub without the awful accents."
9pm; $6
Thursday, August 31st
>>> Def Leppard/Journey at The White River Amphitheater. If this were the middle of the winter sometime far far away from Bumbershoot, maybe you'd consider pouring the sugar and whatnot, but it's unlikely for this Thursday. Nevertheless, here it is.
7:30pm; $32.50-89.50
Friday, September 1st
>>> Pleasurecraft at Nectar. Lots of Air-like keyboards and spacey sounds along with some rock elements make this a fun band. Argo is also playing and it's free as in beer. Can't beat that price, especially when B'shoot is about to mule kick your wallet.
10pm; free
>>> People Talking & Singing at McCaw Hall. A benefit for 826 Seattle. Dave Eggers, Sarah Vowell, Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, hosted by John Hodgman and Jonathan Coulton. All we can really say here is, Holy shit! We're so very there.
8pm; tickets are $30
Saturday 2nd
>>> Bumbershoot
>>> DJ Assault at Chop Suey. In case you missed it when he played at the Baltic Room, DJ Assault is coming back to play a free! party. It's a given that "Ass 'n' Titties" will be played, and you don't want to miss that.
10pm; FREE. 21+
>>> Brian Nova Orchestra at the Triple Door. Modern big band jazz and swing with Seattle's own stellar jazz guitarist, Brian Nova, a glass of champagne, a chocolate souffle -- you'll forget that crazy Bumbershoot thing even exists.
8pm; $15 tickets.
Sunday 3rd
>>> Bumbershoot
Monday 4th
>>> Bumbershoot
>>> Jam Jam at Baltic Room. This new weekly's already picked up a healthy following, with DJ Collage occasionally grabbing the mic, and Element dropping a mix of reggae, dancehall, and reggaeton.
10pm; $5. 21+
>>> Steve Miller Band at Bumbershoot. Dude, he wrote "Fly Like an Eagle" for fuck's sake.
2pm; Mainstage

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
