Seattle Dates Amy DeZellar

Amy DeZellar, Seattle resident, read and answered questions about her sex life last night at the University BookStore. Her book Dating Amy: 50 True Confessions of a Serial Dater is one of the throng of blooks being released this year. DeZellar began chronicling her dates at Dating Amy in 2003 shortly after she moved to Seattle because she didn't have any girlfriends to bitch to. 50 bad dates later, the happy ending/book deal showed up.

DeZellar seemed a bit shy at first, but apparently Seattle is full of people who need dating advice, and things loosened up quickly. Audience members asked for dating advice (grocery stores and coffee shops are good for meeting people, loud restaurants are bad for first dates). She recommended Matt's In The Market as a good date restaurant, and The Flying Fish, although it's a little loud. The creepy old guy contingent was there in force with one man offering to stalk her and another asking about avoiding the inevitable(?) barfights when dating in places that serve alcohol.

Seattlest was collared on our way out by one of the dates himself, eager to tell his side of the story. 'The Comedian' wants it on the record that he was only joking when he told DeZellar she hated men, and that he doesn't hate her either. In fact, he thought the book was quite funny. Now that's being a good sport.

Hooray for the return of the sketches!

I prefer loud(ish) restaurants on a first date. You don't want to be stuck off in some corner by yourselves. It feels weird.
