Moyer is Oldest Phillie To Win a Game, Mariners Finally Break Losing Streak
Mariners franchise wins leader Jamie Moyer, who is apparently as discardable as a day-old croissant, beat the Cubs last night and became the oldest Phillie pitcher to win a game (Moyer's 43).
It was also Moyer's first win in the National League since 1988, when he pitched the Cubs past the Pirates on the last day of the season.
We think Moyer will like returning to the National League. In his final start for the Mariners, a 5-2 loss to the Angels, he faced a lineup with four .300 hitters. Last night against the Cubs, he didn't face anyone hitting higher than .294 (the always-dangerous Matt Murton).
Meanwhile, the Mariners had a hell of an exciting win last night, and we're not sure what we liked more from Adrian Beltre: his game-winning homer in the ninth, or his vicious take-out slide in the seventh.
Ichiro continues to play in centerfield, so the M's sent Adam Jones back down to Tacoma and brought up T.J. Bohn, who got his first major league at bat last night when Hargrove pinch-hit for Chris Snelling, one of several inexplicable moves he made that the Mariners overcame to win. Oh, we can't wait to have a competent manager.
