Aural Pleasures

april13mb.jpg

Seattlest doesn't find this picture funny at all. We know firsthand how hard those awkward years of high school can be. The pimples, the pants that didn't fit right, the God-awful hours spent wishing Heather Cannon would think of us as more than that creepy guy staring at her. If you think this picture is funny, well, you're a bad person.

Tuesday 22nd

>>> Reigncraft Vol. 6 Record Release Party at Chop Suey. It's the record release party for a compilation of local hip-hop artists, many of the tracks unreleased until this disc.

Wednesday 23rd

>>> Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet at Easy Street Queen Anne. There has never been a band, gig, or project that Skerik has touched that hasn't turned to gold. Continue the love affair.
6pm; free

Thursday 24th

>>> Kitchen at Baltic Room. This new weekly is all over the map musically, but it's all party music, so it's a good time. With DJs Riz, Kid Hops, AC Lewis, and Rebecca West.
9pm doors; $5. 21+.

>>> Skullbot at Chop Suey. Our absolute favorite hard rockers from Stanwood, Washington. Ever. They're opening for someone called White Gold who aren't nearly as good.
9pm; $6, 21+

Friday 25th

>>> The Format, Rainer Maria, at Neumo's. If you're not sure exactly what a MySpace haircut looks like, this is the show to educate you.
6:30 doors; $11 adv/$13dos. All ages, Bar w/ID.

>>> Gettin' Neil Aline at War Room. The Gettin* ________ series has been the definitive way to start your weekend on 4th Fridays, with great music, and an appreciative, attractive crowd. Plus the War Room's roof deck is the place to be seen.
9pm doors; $10. 21+.

>>> The Kingsmen at the Triple Door. From the people who brought you "Louie Louie." You gotta go now.
8pm; $27.50 advance/$30 at the door. Comic Meghan Hounshell opens.

>>> Seattlest's own Kim Ruehl & BetaMax and Eric Miller at Mr. Spots Chai House. Eric Miller is like Dylan meets Death Cab, and betaMax is like Wilco jamming with Tracy Chapman. Should be a good night!
8pm; free. All ages.

Saturday 26th

>>> The Clientele at Chop Suey. They were lo-fi. Now they're hi-fi. Melancholy Brit-pop married to "shimmering guitars, buoyant rhythms and '60s reverb" (Stomp and Stammer).
9pm; $10 advance. With Great Lakes and The Fleet Foxes.

>>> Rebroadcast of last Saturday's Inaugural Wagner Competition on KING FM and online at king.org
7pm

hmm. skullbot? really? they play the same riffs that Clutch has been playing for 15 years...without the clever lyrics. why is this band getting so much hype? is it because johninthemorning loves them? he isn't perfect, you know.
