Chocolate Hits The Street In Wallingford

choclate.jpgSeattlest likes a) chocolate b) cafes and c) endorphins. Not necessarily in that order and certainly not exclusively, but those are some things we like, so we find it very difficult to walk past those chocolate cafes. Dilettantes on Broadway - We lick the glass. Something a bit closer to home would be nice, though, and that prayer was answered recently by Chocolati on 45th.

No surprises on the menu here: chocolate drinks which we're kind of lukewarm on and chocolate eats which we love. And Moon Pies, for some reason. Pictured on the left are (beginning front and center and working clockwise) a bittersweet truffle, an espresso mint meltaway, a dark chocolate caramel and a milk chocolate turtle. They've got all the classics, but nothing as imaginative as some of the things we've seen at the nearby Essential Bakery. They do have milk chocolate molded into cutesy shapes like fish and tools and stuff, but nothing as imaginative as some of the things we've seen at the nearby Erotic Bakery...

They're open late and it appears they have some WiFi going on which heretofore has been the domain of that damn teahouse on 45th that's always full of Bastyr students. Sit back from the doorway if you're at Chocolati late at night because a teapot or a naturopathy textbook can come through the window at any time. The layout's also really cool with lots of expensive looking bars and wood and two seperate upstairs areas. It's much bigger than it looks from the street. Chocolati is probably more of a night spot than a morning cafe in our estimation as it's open until 11:30 and there's lots of non-espresso hot drinks and no food.

There are a few more of these kicking around the north side and they have a production facility and factory store along Aurora somewhere that we'll never visit.
