Local Boys Snider, Lincecum, Doing Good
Local boys Travis Snider (OF-Jackson High of Mill Creek) and Tim Lincecum (P-UW) were both drafted in the first round of June's MLB draft. Thought we'd check in.
Snider, drafted #14 overall by Toronto, is hitting .296 with 5 homers for Pulaski (VA) of the short-season Appalachian League. His second pro homer cleared a 23-foot-high fence and landed across the street from the stadium.
To see Snider, you'll have to travel to Pulaski's Calfee Park, which looks like it might be worth the trip.
Tim Lincecum, drafted 10th overall by the Giants, is dominating Northwest League hitters for Salem-Keizer. He's struck out 10 in only four innings. He's given up one hit. So only three of thirteen batters have managed to put the ball in play against him. Not too shabby. Rotoworld says Lincecum may be the closest to the majors of anyone in the 2006 draft.
Salem-Keizer plays Everett in a mid-week series next week. If they keep Lincecum on a four-days-rest schedule, he'll pitch Thursday, August 10th.
