Aural Pleasures

You got something better to do? We don't believe you.

Wednesday 2nd

>>> Mellowdrone and Monsters are Waiting at Chop Suey. Both of these dancey Cali bands rely on heavy synths.
9pm doors; $8 advance.

Thursday 3rd

>>> Mark Erelli at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. Sensitive Bostonian singer/songwriter with a sweet, sweet voice.
7pm; free. All ages.

Friday 4th

>>> Harvey Danger at Neumo's. CD Release Party – New album is good. Sean Nelson is wacky! Mercir, Soft Drugs, and The Trucks open.
8pm; $8 Advance; 21+

>>> "Awesome" at the Sunset. Seattlest's favorite band (TM) plays with the piratey Captain Bogg and Salty at the glorious Sunset Tavern in nautically-friendly Ballard. Miss Mamie Lavona, the Exotic Mulatta, and Her White Boy Band will fire the opening shot on this dangerous night of musical mayhem.
9pm; $8.

Saturday 5th

>>> DIPLO at Neumo's. A night in Rio! A great DJ and some wild women – Portugese style!
8pm; $12 Advance; All Ages Balcony – 21+ Floor.

>>> Der Rosenkavalier at Seattle Opera. Not the waltzy Strauss, the other one. It's soprano Carol Vaness's very first time in the plum role of the Marschallin.
Opens Saturday, August 5, 7pm; Tickets $49 - $127. Runs through August 26.

Sunday 6th

>>> The Coup and Common Market at Neumo's. Support local hip hop!
8pm; $12 advance, $15 door

Ooh, bad, bad scheduling HD against "A!" on the same night! I mean, how is Sean going to perform his cameo Kinks/Creedance mash-up from clear across town?

eh, diplo is unfortunately a bit disappointing of late. his productions are great, but it's the same old hipster-approved stuff with him, so i wouldn't get too excited about him. CSS (the opener) on the other hand is apparently amazing live, so show shouldn't be a total loss. we shall see...
