Hitch in our Giddyup

bike_sign.gifSeattlest is horribly distracted right now. Not only is our site acting a wee bit like Tom Cruise on Oprah’s couch (sorry about the paucity of posts, and comments may be down for a little while), but we’re getting married in a few weeks. OK, not all of Seattlest is, just this contributor and well, our esteemed editor Dan (huzzah!). But not to each other. Really. But we digress.

We had a lot on our mind driving into work today, and plowed right into the garage with our mountain bike firmly ensconced in the rack on our roof.

We wish we could say it is the first time we’ve done this, but it isn’t. The first time, about 9-10 months ago, we got off pretty damn easy with just a minor dent to the car, and no scratches to the bike—we were honestly more worried about the bike. Seattlest felt foolish, shook our head, and laughed thinking “Boy, sure glad we got that out of the way. At least we’ll never do THAT again…” This time, the bike again escaped seemingly unscathed, but the car got it a little worse: a few more serious dents to the roof and window trim, and a nice huge scratch on the rear window.

The kind person who helped extract our bike, which was tangled in the hanging metal bar (which prevents you from smacking straight into concrete, the only reason our bike was spared both times) and half falling off the car tried to cheer us up by saying “Hey, its just a bike.” Oh, if only you knew, buddy, if only you knew

Now that we’ve successfully ripped both of our fancy new bike racks off the top of the car, after we get hitched we’re going to go get ourself a hitch.
