Dansk Stil was well worth attending Tuesday night, which many did despite the technical difficulties in getting our post up. The film was engaging, funny, and generally very human, exploring how the Danes have taken in and made aspects of hip-hop culture their own. The fact that there was a demonstration by some of the Danish b-boys and a quick performance by Cancer Rising proved to be the icing on an already satisfying cake. (Here are two scenes from the film: One Two)

As important as the hip-hop on display (what!) was what this event represents for Central Cinema. Seattlest has always kept an eye on Central Cinema, knowing they had the potential for great things since they already had the beer/good food/interesting films part down. Having visited the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin (one of the listed Central Cinema inspirations) for a talk by John Kricfalusi (of Ren & Stimpy fame), it became apparent that there wasn't anyone filling that particular niche in Seattle. Sure, Rebar has no shortage of interesting events, and the Big Picture is willing to draw from different audiences, but events like Tuesday's premiere show where (hopefully) Central Cinema is headed. We're looking forward to more enhanced film experiences from you Central Cinema. Keep up the good work. First sing-along you have, we are there (in the back, taking notes).
