The Great Downtown Rock Exodus
Seattle clubs are playing a big game of musical chairs, but when the music stops and everyone grabs a seat it's going to be downtown that's out of the game.
Neumos lost a third of an owner and added a new one who happens to be employed by Chop Suey which sounds like a raw deal for Chop Suey. Let's focus on downtown, though. The Fenix closed and the guy who owned that place bought the Premier which will become the new new Fenix. Now there are rumors (un substantiated LJ rumors, but rumors still) that the Showbox is in danger of being renamed Downtown Luxury Condominium Living. Oh wait. There are rumors that it's going to be sold, torn down and replaced by yuppie storage.
Is there anything left downtown? The OK Hotel went down long ago (RIP) and now if the Fenix and the Showbox are lost, well, that's about it, isn't it? Do not leave a comment mentioning the Moore. We're talking about club-type venues.
And, actually, it's odd that the tsunami of downtown real estate values have yet to reach Belltown's 2nd Ave and all the goodness contained therein. Eh, give it another year.
Update: New unsubstantiated LJ rumors regarding the Showbox claim that it isn't going anywhere.
