826 Seattle Looking For Volunteer Freaks

826logo.gifJudging solely by the displays put on at Seattle's summertime house parties there is a surfeit of carnivalesque talent floating around the city. The fire spinners have mostly returned to their home dimensions by now, but individuals whose talents run towards the offbeat and spectacular abound.

We know you're out there. We saw you doing your thing this weekend and we think it's sick even though we completely failed to tear our little eyeballs away. Still, we couldn't help but think, while watching you dangle from hooks through your flesh or whatever, "what if someone had given this man a skill when he was a kid? Would he still be hanging from these hooks? If someone had sat him down and taught him computer programming, heating and refrigeration repair, or writing would he have had to fall back on this? If only the non-profit writing center 826 Seattle existed when this guy was younger..."

Alright, person with the freakish talent, do you want today's kids to grow up to be like you, or do you want them to have necessary life skills? Because 826 Seattle is looking for you guys to help them out with a fundraiser on July, 22 at the Phinney Neighborhood Center so they can continue their mission of "helping youth, ages six to 18, improve their creative and expository writing skills."

Do you have an extraordinary or freakish talent that you've been dying to show off? Come perform at the 826 Seattle Variety Show Saturday, July 22 from 12-5pm. The Variety Show is a fundraiser for 826 Seattle, a non-profit writing and tutoring center in Greenwood. We're asking that performers donate their time, but past 826 events have garnered press hits in The Stranger, The Seattle Times, and the PI, so it's a great opportunity to draw attention to your skills. If you're interested, please email a description of what you do to: pezlucy@comcast.net

If 826 were around when Seattlest was younger maybe you wouldn't be faced with skipping over all this tortured crap every day and there might actually be something to read up in these internets instead of a bunch of useless rambling clogging up all the tubes. What a wonderful world that would be, eh?
