Revenge of the Night People
Much to the shock of the safety-first set, we run at night, without one of those hi-viz vests. Once, when we were running past the Comet Tavern, a frat boy emerged and accompanied us a couple of blocks, 'til he fell down, laughing.
We run at night partly because darkness is slimming, and partly because real runners are morning people. They don't hit the snooze. They don't hit the bottle. They just do it.
We loathe these people.
Come Tuesday night, Independence Eve, we'll finally turn the tables on them. It's the Firecracker 5k, "Seattle's only Midnight Run," (that doesn't involve beer.) It actually starts at 11:55 p.m. Not late if you're on a bender, but way past bedtime for you-know-who.
Revenge is expensive — $25 bucks, pre-registered— but as any night owl knows, you pay more for good lighting.
