Bring Back School Unis!
Foot wear trends have been pissing us off for quite a while. There's no such thing as formal flip-flops, Tevas are an abomination with or without socks and these new gardening clogs that seem to be the rage have us questioning the legitimacy of man's dominant position on the food chain.
Banning flip-flops from a school seems so two trends ago, but that's what's happening in Federal Way.
From KUOW (their caps):
CASTELLAR SAYS SHE'S TALKED WITH SEVERAL PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS WHO ARE AGAINST THE PROPOSED FLIP-FLOP BAN. BUT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER CHARLIE HOFF INSISTS THE PROPOSED BAN IS A SAFETY ISSUE. HE SAYS STUDENTS WHO WEAR STURDIER SHOES ARE LESS LIKELY TO GET INJURED IN CROWDED HALLWAYS. OTHER ARTICLES OF CLOTHING THAT COULD BE BANNED INCLUDE PAJAMA BOTTOMS, SLIPPERS, CROP TOPS THAT EXPOSE THE STOMACH AND UNUSUALLY LOW-RIDING PANTS.
We didn't like the pajama bottoms thing when only under-grads did it, but as the distance between us and them gets on in years we're finding we're kind of ambivalent about it trickling down to high school kids. How are they going to sell a pajama ban as a safety issue, though?
