Cop Shoots Wrong Weapon

sub_comm_bnr.gifOur carpool buddy grabbed his wife's phone by mistake this morning. A vexing but victimless error.

Not so of a Kitsap County sheriff's deputy's boo-boo yesterday. He grabbed his gun, instead of his Taser, and fired a bullet--not electricity--into a crazy person who'd climbed up a tree in Bremerton.

This was not a mistake under pressure. They'd been trying to get the guy to descend from the tree for two hours. Then he started getting hostile, so they decided to try Tasering. The Associated Press explains:

One deputy attempted to discharge a Taser at the man, but when it did not work asked another deputy to fire a Taser. Instead of grabbing the Taser, the deputy grabbed and fired the gun, [a spokesperson] said.

An employee with nearby B&B Auto Repair described the man's reaction to getting shot.

"He said, 'Ow, that hurt, I'm coming down, I'm coming down,'"

The lesson: Guns get results.

Crazy tree guy, shot in the leg, got a helicopter ride to Harborview. The officer probably got that "we're gonna bust you down to a desk job" speech, and is on administrative leave.
