Seattle, back when it was a couple of families in tents on what&apos;s now Alki Point, was originally named &quot;New York.&quot; Even the natives found that funny, so they started calling it &quot;New York, Alki,&quot; &quot;Alki&quot; being a native word for &quot;eventually.&quot; Then it was just called Alki.
