ESPN's gamecast won't load, and their live scores are not as live as Seattlest Seth, who's currently encamped at the George and Dragon pub in Fremont. We're a little late starting, but we'll update this post with reports from him as they come in.
1:54pm
Game over! Stolid defense and opportunism lifts the yellow of Ecuador
to victory.
Guess that's the end of our G&D broadcast day. The action's over until 6am tomorrow morning, when England takes the field against Paraguay. If they manage to lose that one, the George and Dragon may no longer exist. See ya there.
1:42pm
Ecuador scores again, hurrah! And I'm nearly done with my beer.
Courtney ordered fish and chips 40 minutes ago, still no sign.
1:20pm
Spitfire looks like it'll be a great place to watch games. Gigantic televisions visible from everywhere, but this afternoon at least, they're lacking the crowd intensity of the G&D. Many shouts for the Ecuadorian goal - Nothing for the Poles to cheer. They said they had a decent crowd this morning, and it may be a good downtown-ish place to stop at on the way to work. 1-0 Ecuador.
12:44pm
Courtney arrives, says that "male soccer fans are hot. "
12:25pm
Gorgoeous header by ecuador and they lead! I lived in ecuador for 6
months and therefore am in their corner...the only one at the g and
d, it appears.After a thai lunch I'm working on a newcastle.
I'll see your six months in Ecuador and raise you another six. I lived in Poland for a year. Didn't realize this was an editors' grudge match...
11:37am
Ok, Seattlest Seth will continue to hold it down at the G&D for today's second game, but Seattlest Dan is going to try Spitfire in Belltown (where the Sit n' Spin used to be). Expect either double the updates or no updates between 12 and 1, depending on how well our remote gear holds up.
10:53am
Final whistle sounds, clapping and cheers here from partisans of both
sides. I down my last drop of beer and head outside for a walk before
Poland Ecuador
10:46am
My guinness is one gulp away from done as Germany scores its fourth
goal. Lots of relieved clapping from the nervous fans here.
10:34am
Cheers of ole ole ole ole/ ricos, ricos. Doertmund (I think) finishes
another goal. 2 shots, 2 goals for cr and maybe deposed German
goalkeeper Oliver Kahn should be in after all. ESPN cameras
immediately show Kahn. Much mirth, jumping and hugging from nearby
costa rican girls.
10:21am
Costa rican defender caught watching a rebounded header, his man
sneaks past him to score. 3-1 germany. Hard to see how costa rica,
with only 1 shot, could come back.
10:16am
The crowd here seems to be thinning out a bit. A really good-looking woman walks by--momentarily confused until I see the cameraman trailing her. Germany getting sloopy, ahs of disgust from the assembled allemanians
9:47am
11 shots for g, 1 for cr. All cr can do is counterattack. The german in
the blue sweater behind me pleads for a goal before half. He doesn't
get it. Halftime
Germany's up 2-1 at halftime. Ballack isn't playing. Wanchope somehow got the Costa Rican goal. Good time to get in on the Seattlest World Cup Challenge over at ESPN. You're too late for the first match but there's still time to predict the outcome of Poland - Ecuador. It's group ID 52939, password "seattlest."
9:16am
When costa rica equalizes, the cheers, though from less people, are
much louder. I've started on a guinness
9:07am
Germany scores first, about 75 percent of the place erupts in cheers
9:05am
Shrieking costa rican girl behind me in a red and blue hat. Yells
"vamos" at intervals

will be at g&d for the 6am england kickoff tomorrow!
Showing up at g&d at 6am is going to take a lot of dedication, but you could conceivably be back in bed with a few beers in you by 8:30 or 9...
See you there, kim!
