Tonight at the Mountaineers Clubhouse (which is not up at 10,000 feet somewhere like you may expect, but is at 300 3rd Ave) John Lombard is going to talk about Saving Puget Sound. Maybe you don't bat an eyelash at seeing "Saving Puget Sound" capitalized like that because it's kind of been the end-all, be-all of conservation around here for a long time; more mantra than actual goal. In this case it's the name of John's book, though. Saving Puget Sound: A Conservation Strategy for the 21st Century is the full title.
Seattlest read the forward in PDF form and it's about what you'd expect after hearing, "John’s book presents a long-term vision for conservation across the regional landscape, synthesizing the best available studies, and an original strategy for how we get there—including how we pay for it and how we cross the urban/rural political divide to build an enduring consensus for conservation." It's a little dry.
Seems like Mr. Lombard has some interesting things to say, though, which might be better digested in lecture than book form. If there's a Q&A segment will somebody please raise their hand and ask, "KUOW says backpacking and camping are on the decline - Why should we even bother with Puget Sound anymore?"
