Seattlest World Cup Challenge

wordlcup.jpgWe're starting a Seattlest World Cup fantasy group over at ESPN instead of Yahoo because Yahoo makes you pick players and who the hell can keep up with all those crazy European longhairs. At ESPN you pick the winners of each match ("pick 'em" they call it in fantasysportslandia and casinos) and if you turn out to be the best guesser Seattlest will reward you with a Seattlest tee shirt, Sounders tickets and... whatever, something else cool. We'll buy you a few beers, how's that? Plus you can tell your friends that you bested the entire Seattlest sports staff.

The tournament starts a week from today and 0.2% of the poplulation of this country is working itself into a sporting frenzy in anticipation. If you're not a sports person or are philosophically opposed to any sports activity that didn't spring full-formed from the mind of Dr. James Nasmith you're going to have a lot of scrolling to do at Seattlest because we're going to be talking about the World Cup. You know what, you can join the group even if you don't know Ronaldinho from Ronaldo. A pick 'em is easy. Will the U.S. beat Italy in their big Group E showdown 17, June or will the Italians clobber us? Or will it be the most spectacular 0-0 draw ever witnessed? Only three choices for every game played - It would appear easier than Seattlest's experiences with soccer betting (a felony now!) would indicate.

Join the group and come watch a few matches with us. We'll tell you when those are coming up. We're group ID 52939 and the password is "seattlest".

I think the important question to ask is, where to watch? The G&D actually has competition these days, in Kells and that place down by Qwest Field; and if you don't want to put up with Eurosnobs but don't mind Mexisnobs, there are a gajillion Mexican restaurants that'll show games.

The thing I'm loving most is that the G&D has wifi, so technically its just like working from home with the television on, right down to the beer.. 'course, I suppose I'll have to wear something besides my pajamas..
